It is most disheartening that two years to the next election the polity is being heated up by politicians. There is so much impatience on the part of opposition politicians it makes me begin to wonder if they have the interest of the masses at heart. For all we know these fellows might just be licking their lips in anticipation of the looting spree they intend to unleash on our common patrimony. This is because most Nigerians don't see any difference between those in power and those angling to take over by whatever means. The desperation to discredit every move by the present administration is a clear demonstration of their dark intentions. A close look at the chieftains of APC for instance, tells volumes about the character of this emerging political party. Most are yesterday's men whose hands are not clean by any stretch of the imagination. In their midst are the official murderers of innocent men executed at a time the crimes for which they were convicted were not in our law books. There are tribal jingoists who are in this strange bed with their fellow travellers for political expediency only. As soon as they realise their political ambitions they would wake up from the bed and wear their tribal toga to push their so-called political associate out of the room. They have done it before.
In this emerging party are tradesmen of a different sort - wheeler dealers adept at cornering choice government properties for themselves and family simply because of their larger than life image and status in society. It is a wonder that up till now nobody has questioned how a former state governor can acquire huge acres of government land in the state secretariat and build for himself a massive private estate. Yet he is a revered chieftain of the APC pointing filthy fingers at others. As they say, the morning tells the day. You can imagine what would happen if they manage to capture the levers of the federal government.
Nigerians must be circumspect in this matter of national leadership. We must be careful not to install carpet baggers into office just because they can use their ignoble media to shout loudest at the roof tops. Hatchet writers are at work in the print and electronic media churning out incendiary articles and talk shows at the behest of these desperate politicians. So be careful what you read and hear!
Which way Nigeria?!
